Only come out if you want to!
Whether it is one of the first times you come out, or if you’re mostly out, you are not obligated to come out to anyone!
Not telling people about your gender/sexuality doesn’t make you a bad person!
You are still valid!
Even if they don’t accept you, I will.
If your parents, family, siblings, etc., don’t accept you for who you are, I will.
If your community doesn’t respect you, I will.
If the world doesn’t think of you as a valid person, I do.
Things about me that shouldn’t be controversial:
- My gender
- My sexuality/romantic orientation
Things about me that should be controversial:
- The fact that I like pineapple on pizza
Dear all members of the LGBT+ community
If your friend/lover makes comments about your gender/sexuality that invalidate you, purposefully use the wrong name and/or pronouns because your preferred ones are “just too complicated”, you have the right to be upset and/or finding someone better. You aren’t being “too sensitive” nor are you “unable to take a joke.” You deserve to be respected, and please know that there are plenty of people out there who will give you the respect you deserve.
